Thermal Bridge Analysis

In Passive House design, installing insulation materials on the building envelope is essential for achieving the targeted energy-saving performance. Therefore, Wacore assists projects by accurately calculating the U-values of insulation materials applied to the building envelope, reducing errors during early design planning. We also provide complete insulation material specifications, including material type, thickness, and thermal conductivity λ (W/m·K).
Project-specific documentation is prepared, including application guidelines, installation procedures, and construction techniques. These documents can also serve as supporting evidence for Passive House certification. This service is highly applicable to curtain wall systems.

In governmental development of energy-efficient building frameworks—including building energy codes, green building programs, and nearly zero-energy building (nZEB) policies—energy efficiency is often overestimated, or Green Building requirements are incorrectly adapted to energy-saving standards. We recommend that project owners adopt scientific verification tools during the early design phase.

Key Points for Insulation Installation

  • Consider façade fixing anchors on exterior walls.

  • Minimize penetration points through the thermal envelope.

  • Ensure sufficient working space to maintain proper contact between insulation and the wall surface.

  • Verify correct alignment of insulation materials across different façades.

  • Apply airtightness treatment at junctions and interface areas.

Key Points for Thermal Bridge Design

  • Proper thermal-bridge design can simplify the Passive House certification process.

  • If a building is designed with thermal-bridge-free details, thermal-bridge calculations are not required in the energy modeling.

  • In hot and very hot climates, the thermal-radiation characteristics of roof and wall surface materials are particularly important.
